Mark Samerdyke, also known to some as Schlemm, died on January 13, 2022. He was 62.
A lifelong bachelor and resident of Brecksville, Mark graduated from Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School in 1977. Residents of Brecksville may know Mark as the guy who walked everywhere, likely with his camera bag on his shoulder.
With a passion for photography, Mark often viewed the world through a camera lens. His photos documented family and social gatherings, the beauty of nature, interesting aspects of the places he visited and just about anything unusual that caught his eye.
Mark either took a bus, walked or hitched a ride to get where he wanted to go. He liked hiking, camping, listening to music, celebrating Mardi Gras and watching cooking shows. He enjoyed experimenting with food and never used a recipe when making his creations. And like many Clevelanders, he rooted for the Cleveland Browns, hoping "this would be the year." As a regular at the London Pickle Works, you could often find him throwing back a few cold ones with his buddies.
Mark loved his country and demonstrated his patriotism by working at the polls each election day for most of his adult life. He also supported the American Legion.
Mark was a man of few words, but he was always the first person to call and wish his loved ones a happy birthday. He may not have expressed it through words, but Mark deeply loved and cared for his biological family and his chosen family - his friends. No one was a stranger to Mark. He really loved to connect with people. And it didn't matter whether he knew you or not, Mark would lend a helping hand when he could, if needed, and he never looked for something in return.
Mark was the beloved son of the late Frank R. and Vivian (nee Muliolis) Samerdyke and is survived by his sisters, Diane Rust (Michael) and Karen Puzder (Raymond). He was the uncle of Mary, Matthew, David and Jane.
Family will receive friends at Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home, 8150 Brecksville Road, Brecksville, Ohio 44141 on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 10:00-11:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 8700 Brecksville Road, Brecksville, Ohio at 12:00 pm.
