LAVERNE R. AHRENS (nee Brunner) died on June 17, 2021 at 94-years of age. Born and raised in Shaker Heights, OH, she spent long periods living in Pepper Pike and Brecksville, OH. Throughout her childhood, Laverne’s family spent summers living at the Portage Lakes in Akron, OH enjoying time with extended family and friends. Laverne was a graduate of Shaker Heights High School and Stephens College. She spent the early years of her adult life supporting her husband Bob’s career making frequent international trips while collecting art & treasures to display in their home. Laverne was particularly fond of the Weimaraner dog breed spending several decades raising and showing her cherished dogs. In retirement, she was very active in doll collecting and doll house associations. In 2006, she moved to Fort Myers, FL where she lived until her death. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49-years Robert G. Ahrens, parents David J. and Lillian Formanek Brunner, sisters Gertrude S. Brunner & Bernice Fikar and brothers David J., Jr. & Erwin F. Brunner. She was supported during the final years of her life by her companion Lowell A. “Newt” Baker (deceased) along with niece Diane Fikar Diebold of Carrollton, OH and David Dixon of Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Many nieces, nephews, extended family & friends survive to celebrate her life and cherish her memory. Special thanks to Jan & Dale Kuntz along with Maureen Brennan & the in-home care team members for their special kindness in Laverne’s final years. Graveside service to be held on Wednesday June 30, 2021 at 10:30 am at Brookmere Cemetery, Cleveland, OH. The family kindly requests no flowers. Memorial contributions, for those who may be inclined, can be made in memory of Laverne to the L. A. "Newt" Baker Accounting Scholarship Fund at the Kent State University Foundation, 350 S.
