George J. Lesh

George J. Lesh peacefully passed from his earthly to eternal life on February 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Scranton, PA, on July 23, 1947, the only son of George H. and Margaret M. Lesh. He graduated from Abington Heights H S, in Clarks Summit PA, after which receiving his Bachelors degree from West Chester State University of Pennsylvania, and pursued graduate studies at Ithaca College, Kutztown University, and Westminster Choir College.

He started his career teaching vocal music and band at the Slatington High School in PA. He moved on to teach vocal music in Sayre, PA, finally landing for good at Unatego High School, where he taught vocal music as well as acoustic guitar and general music for 34 more years. George also served as zone representative for New York State School Music Association.
He was currently the church musician for the Unadilla United Methodist Church. However, he has played for services in almost all of the churches in Unadilla and Sidney.
George was also a very active member of the Unadilla community beyond his musical work. He was a member of the Village Planning Board, helping to shape the future of the village he and his family called home.

After retirement, he learned to play classical guitar, becoming secretary of the board of the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York. He also shared his guitar music with senior citizens groups, church services, and church dinners and breakfasts.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise; son, Benjamin and daughter-in-law Theresa, of Brecksville, OH; son Brian, of Raleigh, NC; son Jon, of Wake Forest, NC; and grandchildren, Elliott and Oliver Forsha, of New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved daughter, Heather.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Unadilla United Methodist Church, 170 Main Street, Unadilla, NY on a date to be determined soon. The family invites everyone to come and share their “ George” stories.
